24 p, 2.6 MB (r)HDL in theranostics : How do we apply HDL's biology for precision medicine in atherosclerosis management? / Uribe, K.B. (Center for Cooperative Research in Biomaterials (CIC BiomaGUNE). Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA)) ; Benito-Vicente, A. (Universidad del País Vasco. Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular) ; Martin, C. (Universidad del País Vasco. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) are key players in cholesterol metabolism homeostasis since they are responsible for transporting excess cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver. Imbalance in this process, due to either excessive accumulation or impaired clearance, results in net cholesterol accumulation and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). [...]

Efficient monosubstitution of the non-iodinated, mono-iodinated and di-iodinated m-carborane cluster at one C has led to the preparation of three single organic molecule-carborane dyads (4-6), which exhibited exceptional fluorescence properties with quantum yield values of 100% in solution, for all of them, with maxima around 415 nm, which correspond to the locally excited state (LE) emission. Efficacy and efficiency of pesticide application in the field through the foliage still face many challenges. There exists a mismatch between the hydrophobic character of the leaf and the active molecule, low dispersion of the pesticides on the leaves' surface, runoff loss, and rolling down of the active molecules to the field, decreasing their efficacy and increasing their accumulation to the soil. [...]

Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2), an important paracrine growth factor, binds electrostatically with low micromolar affinity to heparan sulfates present on extracellular matrix proteins. A single molecular analysis served as a basis to decipher the nanomechanical mechanism of the interaction between FGF-2 and the heparan sulfate surrogate, heparin, with a modular atomic force microscope (AFM) design combining magnetic actuators with force measurements at the low force regime (1 × 10¹ to 1 × 10⁴ pN/s).
